City of Melbourne planning to welcome international students

The City of Melbourne has started planning an event that will welcome new international students in our city.

After discussions were held with international students and universities representatives last year, the organisers decided to take on board a number of the ideas discussed. The City of Melbourne decided that the most suitable way to celebrate would be a carnival at Federation Square that will include dance performances, roving performers, live crocodile feeding, food stalls as well as interactive and informative stalls to celebrate cultural diversity in Melbourne.

The event will be free and it will take place on Sunday, 1 March at Federation Square. A hip-hop competition is being planned for some of Melbourne's best youth groups and a footy program will be launched in collaboration with the Essendon Football Club.

The City of Melbourne decided that the best way to plan a successful event is to do it in continuous consultation with current international students, who are providing ideas and even producing promotional materials. The organisers are hoping to provide the new international students with an opportunity to experience the richness of cultures for which Melbourne is famous.
